 | Gammon Tournament: Well, the 2009 Gammon Chess Tournament is
now history. We want to say a special Thank You to all of the parents who
helped to run the tournament. Without their assistance and Mrs. Hubbles coordination
and her efforts, there is simply no way we could have hosted this event. Our tournament
was well attended by ~ 90 students representing ~12 schools.
The results were as follows: |
K -2 DIVISION |
K 5 DIVISION |
1st |
St. Elizabeth Ann Seton |
1st |
St. Elizabeth Ann Seaton |
2nd |
Independent Elementary |
2nd |
Jackson Elementary |

Independent Elementary |
 | A special Congratulations goes
to the students from Jackson for winning the 2nd place school trophy. We are very proud of
you and your tremendous accomplishments. You represented Jackson Elementary well and made
a lasting impression. |
 | This tournament was a first for several of
the students from Gammon and Holycross. We were very pleased by their performances and the
lessons they learned from their losses. |
 | The Knights Tour: This month I would
like each of you to check out the Knights Tour. The Knights Tour is but one
excellent visual of the connection between chess, mathematics and patterns. In short, the
Knights Tour results when a single knight must travel the board and touch each
square only once. To see it in action, click on the following link. What follows is the
pattern made as the knight makes his tour: |
