Before and After School
Latchkey
Latchkey is a program for children in kindergarten through fifth grade that is offered before and after school through the school year. Students have fun and enjoy friends while under the supervision of caring adults. The program is tailored to meet the developmental characteristics and needs of each individual child. Certified teachers direct the USD 259 district programs and follow the Kansas Department of Health and Environment guidelines. District sites are licensed child care facilities and 100% self-funded.
Who can participate?
Children must be 5 – 12 years of age. 5-year-olds must be enrolled in kindergarten. Enrollment is first come/served. Staffing is based on a 1 to 15 ratio. Wait lists are maintained at each site.

Girls on the Run
For girls in grades 3-5, Girls on the Run inspires individuals of all abilities to discover, build, and grow their self-confidence.
Together, they experience a sense of belonging and connection as a team.
Volunteer coaches facilitate lessons that blend physical activity with life skill development, including managing emotions, fostering friendships, and expressing empathy.
At the end of the season, the team completes a Community Impact Project and a 5K together, which provides a tangible sense of accomplishment and sets a confident mindset into motion.
Girls Who Code
Girls Who Code participants learn about women in STEM fields and work on technology projects. Participants learn the concepts of loops, variables, conditionals and functions that form the basis of all programming languages through projects and challenges in Scratch, an online platform using blocks to create animations and games.
